California Visitor's Map:
detail from border that surrounds the main map

map detail

They came by the hundreds, they came by the thousands, and they still come. For many centuries, and for many reasons, people from around the world have migrated to California. Of all the reasons that have brought people to California, none is more well known than the Californnia Gold Rush, which followed the discovery of gold in 1848.

This border vignette is one a series of border vignettes surrounding the main map. They portray why people have come to California.
