Washington, D.C. Visitor's Map:
detail from border that surrounds the main map

map border detail

The border surrounding the main map illustrates events in the history of the United States. This detail from the top border of the map features events in the early history of our nation: the coming of Europeans and Africans, the prelude to the Revolutionary War, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The illustrations are linked to places you can visit in the Washington DC area. For example, the signing of the Declaration of Independence is linked to the National Archives, where the actual document is on display.
