of the Santa Barbara area
Carol Mendel's illustrated maps are full-color, pictorial maps of major visitor destinations. The large type makes them easy to read, and the many illustrations make them fun to use.
The main map in the Santa Barbara Visitor Map was a 24” x 18” map covering the Santa Barbara metropolitan area, featuring main roads, cities, communities, parks, visitor attractions, and points of interest
It covered the area from Isla Vista on the west to Montecito on the east, and from the Santa Ynez mountains on the north to the Pacific Ocean on the south.
The other side of the map included maps of Downtown Santa Barbara, Solvang, and Santa Barbara County.
Although the paper version of this map is no longer published, maps from it live on in other ways.

Much of the flavor of downtown Santa Barbara comes from its Spanish tile roofs and the decorative motifs in the tiles, fountains, and grillwork.
